Biography
Rotn Chief (Professor) Benjamin Adekunle Eegunranti is a distinguished consultant psychiatrist, professor of addiction psychiatry and mental health, public health physician, and administrator. He holds the qualifications of MBChB, MPA, MPH, and FMCPsych, which underscore his expertise across clinical medicine, public administration, and public health. His significant contributions to society have been recognized through honors such as a street named after him (Dr. Kunle Eegunranti Street, Ota Efun, Osogbo) and the chieftaincy title of Bashorun Aro of Ilobu Land. He is an accomplished member of numerous professional bodies, including the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), the Association of Psychiatrists in Nigeria (APN), and the World Psychiatric Association (WPA). Professor Eegunranti has a robust record of service in institutional and community leadership roles. He has served as a member of the Osun State Drug Abuse Control Committee (OSDACC) and chaired its Sub-Committee on Treatment and Rehabilitation. Within the Great Ife Alumni Association of Obafemi Awolowo University, he held several key positions, including Assistant National Secretary and Branch Secretary. A Paul Harris Fellow, he has been a pioneering force in mental health initiatives within Rotary, serving as the pioneer District Chairman for Mental Health in District 9126 and a member of the regional Mental Health Initiative Committee. His academic and professional governance contributions include membership on the governing council of Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, and serving on the accreditation committee and as an examiner for the National Postgraduate Medical College.
