The 2025 colloquium and end-of-year party of the steadily rising Osun Intercontinental Club had a precedent in the previous three editions, the last of which held in December 2022.
Notwithstanding the unavoidable break, members based in Nigeria and abroad showed undisguised enthusiasm on December 28, when they converged on Mosab Event Centre on Ring Road, Osogbo, and reunited under a convivial atmosphere.
It was a moment of smiles, laughter, and contagious love freely shared by members to the amusement of their invited guests.
Learning with civic purpose
The planning committee left no one in doubt of its leadership model, which rested on achieving results against obstacles. Within a short time, the committee reached out to three tested public speakers: Professor Peter Olapegba, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) at the University of Ibadan; Dr. Camille Yinka Anjous, a public affairs analyst; and Mr. Solanke-Hamzat, acting Executive Chairman of the Osun State Internal Revenue Service.
Dr. Anjous spoke on political dispensation in Osun State in 2026 and beyond, reflecting on the difference between first-hand and second-hand knowledge, the discipline required for civic education, and the need to move from passive hope to structured expectations.
He also distinguished strategic thinking from operational thinking, explaining that effective leadership must balance long-term sustainability with day-to-day execution.
Tax, ageing, and community
Mr. Solanke-Hamzat took the gathering through the new tax act and explored its implications for enterprises and individuals. He made a case for the regime as a tool for modernizing taxation, improving revenue generation, and reducing the burden of multiple taxation on businesses.
Professor Olapegba spoke on attaining senior citizens' age, its social implications, mental health, and related concerns. Drawing from personal experience, he encouraged the audience to prepare early for the natural challenges of old age.
Fellowship after the papers
The event, anchored by ace broadcaster and club member Alhaji Oluwatoyin Yusuf, combined intellectual cuisine with food, drinks, dance, photo sessions, and an after-party after the official curtain had been drawn.
Club President Alhaji Abiola Abioye applauded members for their support and charged them to remain dedicated as the club moves toward its anticipated inauguration.
Members described the gathering as educative, entertaining, and deeply reunifying, with several guests praising the quality of the lectures and the spirit of friendship that shaped the day.
